Adding Subjects

Subjects are the simplest record in Timetabler — just a name (e.g. "Mathematics", "Chemistry"). Subject names must be unique within your school.

A Subject exists purely so Lessons have something to reference — it doesn't carry any scheduling behavior of its own (no default duration, no default room tags, nothing). Anything subject-specific you want the solver to account for — "Chemistry always needs a lab", "Art should run as a double period" — is set on the individual Lessons that use that subject, not on the Subject record itself.

If you want to classify lessons independently of their subject (for example, marking certain lessons as "Practical" or "Exam" regardless of which subject they belong to), that's what a Lesson's Activity Tags are for — see Creating Lessons for the distinction.
